Terms of Service

Effective August 12, 2026

Welcome to Kinfolk. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Kinfolk app. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Kinfolk.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) to use Kinfolk. By using the app, you confirm you meet this requirement.

2. Your Account

  • You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for all activity under your account.
  • Provide accurate account information and update it when it changes.
  • One account per person. Do not share credentials or impersonate others.
  • You can delete your account at any time from My Account  →  Danger Zone. Deletion is permanent.

3. Acceptable Use & Community Guidelines

Kinfolk is a safe, supportive community. You agree NOT to:

  • Post hate speech, racism, harassment, threats, or discriminatory content.
  • Bully, doxx, or target any member.
  • Share misinformation or content meant to harm the community.
  • Post nudity, sexually explicit content, or graphic violence.
  • Promote illegal activity or sell prohibited items in the Marketplace.
  • Spam, scrape, or attempt to disrupt the service.
  • Use the app to send unsolicited commercial messages.

Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent ban. You can report violations using the report tool on any post or listing.

4. Your Content

  • You retain ownership of content you create and grant Kinfolk a license to host, display, and distribute it within the app for the purpose of operating the service.
  • You are responsible for ensuring you have the rights to post content (including images, video, and audio).
  • You can delete your content at any time; certain copies may remain in backups or where required by law.

5. Marketplace & Peer-to-Peer Transactions

  • The Marketplace connects members for peer-to-peer buying, exchanging, gifting, and booking services between individuals.
  • Kinfolk is not a party to these transactions and does not process payments. Payment must be arranged directly between buyer and seller.
  • Kinfolk does not handle shipping, returns, refunds, or escrow. Resolve disputes directly with the other member.
  • Sellers are responsible for the legality, condition, and accuracy of their listings. Buyers are responsible for verifying items before paying.
  • Kinfolk is not liable for the outcome of any peer-to-peer transaction.

6. Village Economy & Credits

Kinfolk Credits are a non-monetary, in-app reward earned through verified community actions. Credits have no cash value, cannot be purchased for money, and cannot be redeemed for cash. Rewards are offered by community sponsors and subject to availability.

7. Third-Party Links & Services

Kinfolk may link to or integrate third-party websites and payment apps (for example, when members arrange marketplace payments). We are not responsible for their practices, content, or availability.

8. Disclaimers

Kinfolk is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimer limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Kinfolk and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss arising from your use of the app or from interactions with other members.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or harm the community. You may close your account at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership, disclaimers, and limitations of liability) will remain in effect.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the app. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the app operator is based, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

13. Copyright & DMCA Notice

Kinfolk respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects our members to do the same. It is our policy to respond to clear notices of alleged copyright infringement in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), 17 U.S.C. § 512.

Filing a Takedown Notice

If you believe content on Kinfolk infringes a copyright you own or control, send a written notice to our designated copyright agent containing the following:

  • A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act on their behalf.
  • Identification of the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed (or, if multiple works, a representative list).
  • Identification of the allegedly infringing material on Kinfolk and enough information for us to locate it (e.g., the post, listing, or profile URL).
  • Your contact information, including your full name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
  • A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  • A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.

Send notices to our designated copyright agent through the in-app report tool on the specific content, or to Kinfolk support via the support channel in your app builder dashboard, with the subject line "DMCA Notice." We will review and act on valid notices, including removing or disabling access to the identified material.

Counter-Notification

If your content was removed and you believe it was removed in error or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notification including your contact information, identification of the removed material, a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the removal was a mistake, and your consent to the jurisdiction of a U.S. federal court. We may restore the material 10–14 business days after receiving a valid counter-notification unless we receive notice that legal action has been filed.

Repeat Infringers

In appropriate circumstances, Kinfolk will terminate the accounts of members who are determined to be repeat infringers.

14. Contact

For questions about these Terms, contact Kinfolk support through the in-app Bug Report tool or the support channel in your app builder dashboard.
